Why I Started A PhD Bootcamp

Hi,

I’m guessing you’ve stumbled upon or got to this site, randomly or deliberately; whichever is the situation, you’re welcome to the PhD Bootcamp – a space dedicated to supporting aspiring researchers and academics via mentorship and coaching.

The PhD journey or the researcher’s experience, can seem or be very lonely, with many days spent in the headspace of self-doubts and guilts – this space is set up to help overcome such feelings of helplessness or feeling guilty of being unproductive. The PhD journey doesn’t need to be that way or feel so; perhaps, with a little bit of help, the experience could be filled with moments of joy, happiness, and, you know, the occasional self-doubt and sense of fear that are needed to feel motivated and energised to go on to do bigger things in life.

As someone who has experienced the PhD process as a “sojourner” (which is why this blog’s email address is phdsojourner@outlook.com), it’s important to remind the PhD candidate that everything will be alright eventually, God willing. The quote “the journey is better than the inn” from Miguel de Cervantes’ novel “Don Quixote” perfectly captures the essence of the PhD process. Enjoy the journey (i.e., process), and like the legendary NFL coach Bill Walsh says, “The score (i.e., outcome) takes care of itself.”

Perhaps you’ve moved beyond the PhD journey, and now you’re planning what’s next—suddenly, the days look longer, and there seems to be nothing time-sensitive or of significant importance that you need to turn in, and you’re wondering, “What’s there to do?” This blogsite aims to assist you in identifying opportunities where you can utilise your time, knowledge, experience, and skills to create and deliver your own project, regardless of its size, whether it’s paid or unpaid, or whether it’s a grandiose or everyday endeavour.

Maybe you’re just embarking on your journey as a young person or an adult going into higher education for the first time or as a returnee after a hiatus; this blog will be here to be your acquaintance, associate, friend, or companion. Through the sharing of blog posts, articles, podcasts, interviews, reviews, and more, we will demystify the higher education experience. If you’re still in high or secondary school and unsure about what you want to study at university, the PhD Bootcamp is here to be your companion, supporter, and cheerleader.
